COSRX Rice Overnight Mask was one of the first Korean skincare products that I bought and tried. I wanted to start with something gentle to see how my skin reacts, as well as moisturizing – because I’ve been struggling with dry patches on my chin for quite a while.
I used to apply my regular daily moisturizer before bedtime, so this was actually the first sleeping mask that I’ve tried. My expectations were pretty high – I wanted it to be more moisturizing and nourishing than my regular face cream.
There were a few reasons why I went for COSRX Rice Overnight Spa Mask. First of all – it has pretty short ingredients list, free from alcohol, PEG, fragrance, and other other nasty chemicals.
Another reason was the rice exact – which is the main ingredient in this sleep mask. It’s super popular in K-beauty products and lots of people rave about its benefits, which seem to be backed by scientific research.
The rice extract has oil-balancing and calming effects as it helps control inflammation1. It can also boost collagen synthesis2 which means it can be a solution for sun damaged skin, wrinkles, and dark spots3.
In general, it nourishes the skin and makes it smoother. Sounds promising, right?
I used COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask for over a month and in this review I’m going to share the results!

COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask – Review
What I expect from my day and night creams is: good moisturizing because I have dry skin, gentle formula that doesn’t sting or cause redness on my sensitive skin, as well as doesn’t cause my acne-prone skin to break out.
COSRX Rice Overnight Mask turned out to tick all the boxes!
Now, let’s dive into in-depth review.
PRO TIP: K-beauty skincare can be sometimes quite pricey, so I’m always in the hunt for promotions! And last time I checked COSRX overnight mask was a bit cheaper here than on their site.
Ingredients That I Like
- Rice extract – because it’s nourishing, brightening, anti-aging and soothing.
- Sunflower seed oil – because it’s a moisturizing ingredient.
- Betaine – it hydrates and plumps the skin.
- Niacinamide – this one has brightening properties and helps to get rid of dark spots and fight hyperpigmentation.
- Allantoin – a calming ingredient for skin irritations and inflammations.

What Does COSRX Rice Overnight Mask Do?
This overnight mask is advertised to provide deep nourishment to dull and flaky skin. It should also make the skin softer, brighter, clearer and well-moisturized.
Speaking from my experience, COSRX Rice Mask deliver (almost) all of that!
It gave my face nice feeling – moisturized but without sticky or greasy residue. Every time I used this cream, my face stayed like that the whole night and when I woke up, my skin was still plump, bouncy and well-hydrated. I like that it didn’t look shiny.
I have a sensitive skin and many skincare products cause my face to breakout, make it red and itchy, especially if there are many ingredients.
That’s why I like COSRX mask – it has fairly short ingredients list and it never caused any itchiness or irritation. I would even say it calmed my skin and most importantly, it didn’t clog my pores and didn’t trigger new pimples.
Did it actually brighten my skin? I think that effect was very minimal and gentle. But just enough for me.
After 1.5 month of using this hydrating mask my skin tone seemed to be improved and more even. My face looked fresh and healthy.
But I’m not so sure if it would actually brighten dark spots and help with hyperpigmentation – for that I would recommend getting good Korean niacinamide serum.
Can I Use COSRX Rice Mask As A Moisturizer?
Because it is so lightweight and doesn’t make your face shiny, you can use COSRX Rice Mask also as a moisturizer during the day!
If this mask provides intensive nourishment and makes your skin clearer, why not including it in your morning beauty routine, too?!
It absorbs quickly, so you don’t have to worry that your face will look oily or sweaty. And it will provide the moisture your skin needs throughout the day, without the risk of clogging pores.
And because it is light, it layers nicely under the sunscreen and doesn’t make you feel like you have a thick layer of creams on your face.
I have to admit that at some point, when I didn’t have my hand moisturizer at hand (you see what I did here?), I used COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask instead! That was the time when my hands very dry and chapped (way dried than my face), so I had to use quite a lot of this cream to soothe my thirsty skin.
That’s why I would say for moderately dry skin this overnight mask is great, but it may be not enough for ultra dry skin.
Who Can Benefits Most From COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask?
I would say this sleeping mask is suitable for all skin types, but I recommend it mostly for:
- Tired skin or dull skin – with regular use, it give the skin more healthy and refreshed look.
- Sensitive skin – it doesn’t contain alcohol or other yuck stuff that would lead to irritation.
- Dry skin – it works great as a light moisturizer, both during the night and day (but keep in mind it may be insufficient for VERY dry skin).
- Uneven skin tone – although this mask may not be enough to fight hyperpigmentation, it provides gentle brightening effect and makes your skin texture more even.
Because its ingredients also help control oil production, this sleeping mask can be also a good choice for combination skin. It will moisturize those dry spots and keep the sebum production at bay at the same time.
Although it may not help to clear severe acne, it is still a safe choice for acne-prone skin. Its texture is not heavy, it doesn’t clog pores, and doesn’t trigger breakouts.
Scent
This overnight mask is scentless. I found it to be an advantage in a night cream.
Packaging
COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask comes in a 60ml (2.02 fl. oz.) tube packaging.
I prefer this type of packaging, over a jar and using a spatula.
The good thing is that it’s easy to squeeze the cream out of the tube even when it’s almost empty, so you don’t feel like you’re wasting some “leftovers”!
What Is The Shelf Life Of COSRX Rice Mask?
The tube that I received had 2.5 years till expiration date.
Keep in mind that once you open the tube, the shelf life of COSRX Rice Mask is 12 months.
Application
I know you’re now probably wondering, how long this cream can serve you for and if you actually get a decent amount of the product for the price.
Considering it’s a 60ml tube, I would say COSRX sleeping mask is rather on the higher end, but it’s not crazy expensive like some other Korean moisturizers.
The formula is lightweight and I often used 2 pea-size drops to achieve that feeling of well-moisturized skin.
And because I needed quite a lot of the cream every time, the tube served me for about 1.5 month. I would say it’s a decent result.
A lot of overnight masks and night creams give you this sticky feeling – you can literally feel a thick layer of moisturizer on your face.
COSRX Rice Extract Mask is different – it doesn’t feel sticky at all. It has very lightweight texture that sinks right in and keeps the skin moisturized, without greasy residue.
When you apply it, the mask kinda starts to melt down and turns into watery-like texture so it easily spreads and creates smooth, thin layer on your face.
Before it’s fully absorbed, it can make your face a bit glowy, but it definitely doesn’t make your skin look oily.
And the best thing is that even when you wash your face, you can still feel the moisturizing effect of this sleeping mask. I felt like it prevented my skin from getting dry out or tight from the cleanser.
Pros & Cons
I know that every skin is different, has different needs and can react to one product in different ways.
That’s why I went though dozens online reviews of this sleeping mask to see what other people think about it and whether this sleeping mask worked for them too.
Here are the benefits and drawbacks that others mention most often (I still recommend you to check the reviews on your own here):
The Good
- Creamy, light texture, without greasy feeling
- Thanks to this mask you wake up with smooth and soft skin
- Helps with dryness and flaking around chin and nose
- Lots of people who use Retin A, says this mask help to protect their skin from peeling
- Helps to calm reactive skin and doesn't cause stinging
- People with pore congestion rave about this cream as it makes the skin supple, but doesn't cause acne breakouts (to quote one customer "it doesn't suffocate the skin")
- Great for dehydrated skin, it can nourish it even during winter
- Gives face that glassy look - lots of women use it as a day moisturizer, too
- Soaks in quickly
The Bad
- Some women say they wish there were more sizes of the product to choose from
- A few customers with severely dry and dehydrated skin complained that this mask didn't really make any difference for them
Wrap Up
To sum up my review – COSRX Rice Mask turned out to be a good moisturizer for my sensitive and dry skin. Thanks to its lightweight texture, it’s a great choice for summer.
In general, I’m now a big fan of COSRX products, because they are non-irritating, effective and still pretty affordable when compared to some of the other Korean beauty stuff.
