Have you heard about Anua cleansing oil causing breakouts? Or maybe you’ve read about its strong smell? If you’re unsure whether this oil cleanser is worth buying, you’re in the right place: here’s my unsponsored review of Anua heartleaf cleansing oil.
My Experience With Anua Cleansing Oil
This is a type of story when a viral product doesn’t live up to the expectations…
I’m actually mad at myself for not doing better research on it before buying.
(Yes, I purchased this cleanser with my own money, and no one sponsored this review, I’m just sharing my honest experience.)
When I started using this cleanser my skin was in good condition in terms of hydration, free from irritations and no breakouts in long time.
I started seeing my skin reaction to Anua cleansing oil within a week.
Fragrance
I just can’t stand how heavily fragranced it is! The smell is so overpowering, it feels like I’m washing my face with a perfume.
I hate skincare with parfum – I don’t see a point in it and it only puts my skin at risk of irritation. I always skip products with it.
So why did I get this cleanser if it has such a strong smell? Honestly, I overlooked it!
Usually the fragrance is at the end of the ingredients list, but Anua cleansing oil has fragrance as a 6th ingredient!
It’s listed BEFORE all those nice and beneficial oils… How could I not see that?! 😭
Clogged Pores & Breakouts
I know the scale of comedogenicity is not the most reliable thing (yes yes all those rabbit ear tests, I know!), but there are ingredients that ARE highly pore-clogging especially for specific skin types (and lots of people report getting clogged pores from these ingredients).
One of them is ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE – and surprise surprise – it’s the FIRST ingredient in Anua oil. Again WHY didn’t I read more about it earlier?! 😭
Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil – Reaction
Before using this cleanser my face was pretty clear for 2 months straight.
My skin (which is prone to clogged pores) reacted SO BAD to this cleanser. It clogged my pores on forehead, around nose and on my chin. Plus I got tons of small breakouts, and
I also feel like my skin reacted with irritation to Anua cleansing oil fragrance with increased redness and small red itchy bumps.
This experience is a reminder to myself to always check inci list more careful and dig deeper through reviews (because I know I’m not the only one who is breaking out from Anua Cleansing Oil and cannot stand its smell).
I Stopped Using Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil
After this experience I can simply say that I didn’t like Anua Cleansing Oil, I’m not going to repurchase it, and I’m not going to use it anymore (I will maybe use as a shower oil).
At the time of writing this, it’s been 2 weeks since I stopped using Anua Cleansing Oil.
The result? The irritation and redness is gone. I managed to soothe most breakouts and pores now looks a bit better thanks to Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Mask that I’m using.
However, I still have a texture on my forehead that worries me the most, especially that I never had problems with my forehead.
Keep In Mind
Of course I know there are people who didn’t have bad reaction to Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil and actually like it. Every skin is different and tendency to clogged pores is a very individual thing. Same goes for sensitivity to fragrances.
Nevertheless, I’m very concerned about its ingredients list and about the fact, that lots of influencers don’t mention simple facts:
-It has fragrance listed really high
-Its main ingredient has tendency to block pores
I’ve also seen a few reviews on social media that state that Anua Cleansing Oil is completely non-comedogenic. I really don’t like misinformation, especially that Ethylhexyl Palmitate is not just some ingredient, it is the FIRST ingredient in this oil.
PRO TIP: If you have a skin that is prone to blocked pores, do yourself a favor and pick one of the safest and most effective cleansing oils for makeup removal.
